The Hotel takes his name from the typical “Tonnarella” fishing net in use for the smallest tuna
species. This net differs from the real “Tonnara” because it has only three rooms and, in particular, it is not provided with the death room or “Mattanza” room, since “Sgombri”, “Palmiti” and “Tonnacchielle” have to be fished
alive. This kind of net is still used nowadays during autumn, when the small tunas make their passage in these waters.
On the top of the cliff stood a little tower called “Guardiola” today readapted to be a belvedere, anciently used to check all the “Tonnarella” nets. It is possible to reach the belvedere through a narrow road that starting from the hotel terrace follows the crest of the mountain.
